Wendy Barber trained at The Slade School of Fine Art. She is a weaver, painter and designer. With her late husband, John Hinchcliffe, Barber formed the design partnership Hinchcliffe & Barber to explore commercial design. She continues to design for the brand, which sells in numerous shops in the UK. As a painter, Barber has undertaken a variety of commissions for private and public collections.
